A poor beginning
A study examining poverty-related problems among young adults in the Caribbean Netherlands. It presents the findings of joint research conducted by the Ombudsman for Children and the National Ombudsman, focusing on children and young adults growing up in poverty. We believe that this group deserves special attention because they still have their entire future before them.
As in our earlier research examining vulnerable groups in the Caribbean Netherlands, we encountered some truly harrowing cases. Poverty in the Caribbean Netherlands is a complex problem, and a stubborn one. It cannot be solved overnight. Nevertheless, if we are to improve the situation of young people living in poverty it is essential to take certain small but crucial steps as soon as possible.
