Article 4: Implementing children’s rights

The countries that have signed the Convention must take all necessary measures to ensure that the rights set out in the Convention are implemented. With regard to economic, social and cultural rights, these countries must take such measures to the maximum extent of their available resources. Where necessary, they must also cooperate internationally.

Explanation

The government must take all necessary measures to ensure that the rights of the child are implemented. To do so, it must develop clear plans. Of course, it must also ensure that sufficient funding is available. Governments must also support each other, for example by sharing knowledge or providing financial assistance. For example, the Netherlands engages in development cooperation and in doing so also supports the rights of children in other countries.
